Ay, The moon is so beautiful.
Twelve days of anime is here, mean if I can complete 3/4 month of posts like back in September. This should be a piece of cake really. For the first day you can take this post as a recommendation for something to watch over your Christmas break. Because only wishing had seen this seasonal series over Christmas, it fits the bill in atmosphere and cuteness.
When it comes to seasonal, this year was the lowest in me keeping up. Seems this year wasn’t feeling to want to be invested as others were. Few of seasonal shows actually watched there was one during the spring 2017 season that flew under everybody’s radar. Tsuki Ga Kirei is an original series by Studio feel and it’s rare in seeing a original work any seasonal season. That’s what makes it’s even more intriguing to watch. From touching on this series in my first impressions the series just got better from there till the heart wrenching ending.
The story revolves around two middle schoolers Akane and Kotarou who come meet one another prepping for school’s sports festival. Both find comforting company with each other, first becoming friends then treading into something more.
Innocence In It’s Most Adoring Form
Tsuki gai Kirei will take you back to your childhood days from first loves you had or experienced. This series handles the form of innocence essence or it’s most endearing sense through two protagonists. It’s slow in the beginning for things to get going between Kotaru and Akane but there as awkward as a kid seeing dressed up Santa for the first time. Both are very similar in that quiet, awkward sense but they find comfort in one another.
Slowly as the series progresses their inner cute feelings come out. Can’t forget the moment Kotaru standing in front of Akane, in all defense stating Akane is his girlfriend and their dating. In front of Akane’s track team president who’s been in love with Akane since first year. That moment just is so precious, for how clammed up both Akane and Kotaru are. Coming to realise all these new feelings, slowly the becoming more affectionate.
This series hides nothing in the realness, the new feelings, experiences Akane and Kotaru were going through. At their age the world is a massive place, and a time of discovery, love that this theme stands out. Makes me think about a holiday went on holiday with my family to Greece, met a boy, had a holiday crush. Remember crying my eyes out when it was our last day and said apparently was the end of the world for me. Since then of course had many experiences when I’ve thought everything was the end for me.
Clever Modern Concept
Way back in my childhood to get a message across to your crush or friend. Pass the note along in class till it reached them. Tsuki Gai Kirei does a more modern day take on this which I’ve addressed before. A huge part in the relationship progression between Akane and Kotaru was using the text/call app known as “Line”. This became an outlet source for both to feel comfortable when talking with one another. Glad in the series it did not rely on this concept of just texting but affected Akane and Kotarou in a assertive sense, to speak up.
Doesn’t just make you think about your lovey days, when getting a text from your crush? Was all that matters? Oh my period of this was terrible…..
Moves The Heart
Tsuki Gai Kirei brings the fuzzy feels to a whole new level and moves the heart in ways, a series hasn’t been able to for me till now. Making me recollect childhood crushes and a time in your life with insecurities and vastly learning all that is new. It is no surprise after around episode three the series finally starting getting the spotlight, it deserves. It’s a series you’ll look past the awkward CGI animation, side characters who just fit their part for the plot, slow pacing.
All you’ll be focused on is seemingly innocent flow and carrying you away to a place, that moves and warms you. You need a bit of patience with the slowness the series has but I see as a core strength it possesses. Easy going nature where Akane and Kotaru relationship is shaped and taken care of. It honestly is your perfect warmth watch for Christmas and could’t recommend any more to all of you. Tsuki Gai Kirei defines to me why hidden gems the best in being discovered.
